During the time of World War One, women didn’t have many privileges. They weren’t allowed to join the military but still did whatever they could to help. Because of the women of World War One, American women weren’t view as just confined to domesticated roles. Today, over 237,000 American women serve in the military. Around 70 women are generals or admirals and women make up 2.7% of the military’s front lines and these numbers continue to grow. President Obama is quoted by saying “Today, every American can be proud that our military will grow even stronger with our mothers, wives, sisters and daughters playing a greater role in protecting this country we love” (Micheals,2013, p.22).
Not only are women doing their part in the military, they’re working in our government as well. Although America has yet to see it’s first female president, women continue to hold places in office. Women hold 17 seats in the Senate and 73 women hold seats in the House or Representatives (Women in Government, 2012). Without the women of World War One, women might still be view as inferior. Women today now have the opportunity to join our military and take part in our government.
