(World War One,2011)
Prior to the start of World War One, women were traditionally confided to domesticated roles. Staying at home taking care of the children or taking care of the households were women's main duties. With their husbands, brothers, fathers, and friends being shipped overseas, women stepped up into the men’s roles.
Women once again proved themselves bringing on a new era for American women. Not only were women taking care of the household, they were also working in the labor force. Some women took on work that required hard labor, unloading coal and working in harsh factories are some examples (Clarke, 1918).
Overall, women surprised men with how well their ability to take on heavy work was with great efficiency. American women were proud at what they had achieved (Martin, 8).
