Women on the Home Front
With men getting called to service by the masses, jobs were left abandoned, households were left fatherless and everyone was worried about life on the home front. It became obvious that it was up to the women to take charge. From 1914-1918 its estimated that around 1.6 million American women entered the workforce (Martin,2009). Women were doing everything- working in factories, post offices, public transport, government departments, businesses, and many other places that women were previously banned from (Martin,2009).
